Year 1 is currently a slightly smaller year group for us, so we have one main class with a few Year 1 children in a mixed class with some of our Year 2 children. Collectively Years 1 & 2 are known as Key Stage 1 (often abbreviated to KS1).
Our Year 1 class is Honeybees which is taught by Mrs Durston.
Honeybees always have lots of fun in their learning.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WE USE CLASS DOJO TO SHARE ALL OUR CLASS LEARNING, PHOTOS AND COMMUNICATION DIRECTLY WITH OUR FAMILIES, THEREFORE THESE CLASS PAGES SIMPLY PROVIDE USEFUL LINKS TO AID, SUPPORT & ENHANCE LEARNING AT HOME 😊
Welcome to Year 1
Phonics
In June of each year, Year 1 children have to sit the statutory Phonics Screening Check. The test assesses your child’s phonetic knowledge. Â They sit a reading test with a member of our teaching staff and read 40 words using their phonetic knowledge. Â
The test is a combination of real words (e.g; blot, brick) and nonsense words (eg: blat, bruck.)
The national expectation has been 32 in recent years but that may change.
We report whether your child has achieved the national standard or not in their annual progress report in July. Â All children who do not reach the required national standard have to resit the test at the end of Year 2.
We use the phonics scheme Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS) throughout Reception and Key Stage 1.
