SEND

‘Our vision for children with special educational needs and disabilities is the same as for all children and young people – that they achieve well in their early years, at school and in college, and lead happy and fulfilled lives.’ (Department for Education)

At Sherborne Abbey School, we are committed to offering an inclusive curriculum to ensure the best possible progress for all of our pupils whatever their needs or abilities. Our emphasis is on a whole school approach, and all staff accept responsibility for providing all children with realistic learning goals in a broad-based, appropriate curriculum.

We are especially good at providing a nurturing environment, and developing the educational, social, emotional, cultural and spiritual aspects for all our children through our curriculum design and teaching approaches.

Our Head of School, Mrs Thompson, is a trained SENDCo and works closely alongside our lovely SENDCo – Ms Beaumont.

The National Curriculum Council stated that participation in the National Curriculum by pupils with special educational needs is most likely to be achieved by encouraging good practice for all pupils and that the majority of pupils with learning difficulties simply require work to be suitably presented and differentiated to match their need.

Ms Kirsty Beaumont can be contacted via the school office. Please note that she does not work full time, so there may be a short delay in coming back to you.
